Flying drones with the National Commander

It was a full day of family-friendly fun and competition with drone soccer on Dec. 16 in San Diego at American Legion post 731, right before the Christmas holiday. The event was filled with families and children of all ages, waiting in line for their turn to experience what drone flying is all about. Our national commander, Daniel J. Seehafer, was visiting and took a radio controller in hand and started flying the drone balls within minutes. The commander is no stranger to radio control and piloted the craft with ease.

As the day wore down, the competition between the children was ear-deafening as friends cheered on each other to score the winning goal. Many of the participants questioned the technology in manners of how it works and where they could get one for themselves to practice flying.

The drone program, which started out at Ronald Reagan-Palisades Post 283, is showing growth as participation from other members and posts is gearing up. Stay tuned as Drone Soccer hits CES 2024 (Consummer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas and our own drone program coordinator, Matthew Louie (me), will be there demonstrating the tecnology to the attendees.
